Barnz (Barnabas Chong) loved music from a young age. Being a part of brass bands in schools, played bass drum for 5 years and euphonium for 6 years. At 14, Barnz was introduced to the world of rock music – from Deep Purple to Scorpions, from April Wine to Pat Benatar.
Upon conversion to Christianity at 22, beyond embracing traditional and contemporary worship songs, Barnz turned to CCM enjoying the music of Christian rock bands such as Petra, Whiteheart and Stryper for the in-your-face type lyrics that challenged him to live boldly and radically for God.
His songwriting journey began in 1986 shortly after becoming Christian when he wrote We Believe which was in fact the story of his conversion to Christianity. Today, Barnz has retired from 30 years of vocational pastoral ministry and is renewing his passion in music – in particular to communicate his faith and passion in the Lord through music.
This new project in music production is done with the help of Suno AI Music Generator.
While the words and music of all the songs were composed by Barnz (except To Know Your Way which he co-wrote with his wife May; and the Suno-generated tunes for the three new bridges on Follow, Appetite & God Will Triumph), Suno generated all the vocals, instrumentations and arrangements. The Lord gave Barnz songs over the years – and there was a season he wrote a lot – but lack of time and the high costs of production prevented him from pursuing this further.
With the help of AI today, these songs can now be produced at a far lower cost and at a reasonably proficient music production standard. While these demo tracks were produced with the help of AI, they are intended to be used as reference demos and sung live with real singers and musicians at worship services and events.
